Lac Mini is one of the Mauricie listings for Quebec. Height above sea level is 495 metres. The whole thing is a single swim; walk it in a minute. Our Mauricie list holds plenty of bigger water. The town to know is Weymontachie, 25 km out. Saguenay sits 187 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Lac Mini responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Between January at about -17°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Anyone fishing Lac Mini regularly works to that calendar.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. For a change of water, Lac Hazel is 0.4 km distant. For Lac Mini in particular, ask before you travel.
