An even grey lid over the water, with next to no ripple with the glass holding level. On Lac Milou, work bays that hold the day's warmth first. Little to get excited about, though the evening holds a sliver of promise. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Look for Lac Milou in the Côte-Nord part of Quebec. Height above sea level is 358 metres. It covers about 8 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. Hauterive is the closest town at 47 km. After that come Baie-Comeau at 50 km and Chute-aux-Outardes at 50 km. Within easy reach: Lac Jacques sits 1.1 km out, Lac aux Outardes (1.5 km), Lac Manic sits 1.6 km out, Lac du Lievre (3.7 km) and Lac Varin sits 4.1 km out. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Across Côte-Nord, recorded fish include logperch. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Read Lac Milou before you fish it and the day goes better.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -17°C for January. A short, intense season is the rule this far north. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Expect Lac Milou to follow that timing.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. The nearest alternative is Lac Jacques, 1.1 km out. What applies at Lac Milou may have changed since it was mapped.
