A closed sky with even light today, with a busy W wind on the open water and the barometer holding steady. Start the search at Lac Milly along reed fringes and open pockets. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

The Abitibi-Témiscamingue end of Quebec holds Lac Milly. The surroundings are pine and birch. Small at around 5 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Rouyn-Noranda sits 38 km from the bank. Greater Sudbury is the closest city, 250 km away. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. The county list is broader than any single water. Lac Milly repays a walk before the first cast.
Averages move between -17°C in January and 17°C in July. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. At Lac Milly the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Fer a Cheval, 1.2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Lac Milly.
