Stars out and no cloud tonight, with a faint N drift and steady pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Miller should be near shallow cover and weed edges. The day fishes best from morning through afternoon. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

In Quebec, Lac Miller falls inside Outaouais. Height above sea level is 319 metres. It measures some 1.40 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. There is roughly 12 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. On our Outaouais list it sits near the top for size. Saint-Boniface at 54 km is the nearest place to stop. The big place round here is Gatineau, 140 km distant. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Across Outaouais, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Miller the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -16°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about late November in an average year. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. On Lac Miller the same rules apply, with local timing.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, Lac Mandy is 1.8 km distant. Where Lac Miller is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
