Flat light and a covered sky today, with light air out of the S and pressure sitting still. Give sheltered bays and points the first hour at Lac Mikoomin. Save your energy for the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Mikoomin sits within Mauricie in Quebec. It lies 514 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 7 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. For a base, Weymontachie sits 24 km out. After that come Leblanc at 54 km and La Tuque at 100 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. The county list is broader than any single water. Lac Mikoomin gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -17°C. Winter owns most of the year at this latitude. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Mikoomin.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Lac Nosakasew is 0.6 km off. Treat access at Lac Mikoomin as something to verify.
