Dull, settled light over the water, with a whisper of wind from the ESE with the barometer flat. The water to cover at Lac Mial is the seam between weed and open water. A grinding day likely, with the evening worth the effort if any is. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Mial is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean listings for Quebec. The coast is 17 km away. Roughly 12 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The edge runs 1.9 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. Supplies mean a trip to Saint-Honoré, 8.9 km off. The big place round here is Saguenay, 22 km distant. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Lac Mial the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
In an average year July sits at 17°C and January at -18°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. The season on Lac Mial rarely departs from it.
We hold no note on access for this one. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. Should this one be busy, Petit lac Clair is 0.9 km off. Where Lac Mial is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
