Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with next to no ripple and no real change in pressure. Most of the action on Lac Meloe should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Quebec is where Lac Meloe sits. Height above sea level is 356 metres. Around 15 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. About 1.9 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Nearest town is Notre-Dame-du-Lac, 42 km off. It is 180 km to Greater Sudbury, the nearest city. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. County records show what lives in the area; the local agency holds the water-by-water list. Lac Meloe fishes better once you know its edges.
Typical July readings run about 18°C; by January the average is down near -15°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. From about late April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Meloe.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. If the gate is shut, Lac Bilodeau at 1.7 km is the nearest alternative.
