Overcast skies today, with a whisper of wind from the SW and no real change in pressure. On Lac Mazurka, work the shallows early and the drop later first. A slow day overall; the morning is the best of a quiet lot. Go lighter and slower than usual. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Mazurka is one of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue waters in Quebec. Elevation runs to 368 metres. At roughly 5 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Start from Saint-Boniface, 104 km down the road. Gatineau is the closest city, 215 km away. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Lac Mazurka gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The year swings from about -17°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. From about early May to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Mazurka.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac Anna sits 1 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Lac Mazurka may have changed since it was mapped.
