A still, cloudless night on the water, with almost no wind to speak of and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Lac Maude along any hard bottom among the soft. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, this is Lac Maude. Country round the bank runs to boreal forest. Roughly 9.29 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. It ranks high for size among our Abitibi-Témiscamingue listings. The nearest town is Senneterre, 75 km away. Beyond it, Lebel-sur-Quévillon at 95 km and Barraute at 104 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Lac Maude the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Averages here run 16°C at the top of summer and -19°C at the bottom of winter. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Break-up sits around early May on average, with the water closing again about mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Lac Maude runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Eclair sits 2.7 km off and takes the overflow. Rules at Lac Maude are worth checking on the day.
