Heavy weather possible later today, with a mirror surface most of the day and pressure sitting still. Lac Mastaba should fish best around structure within a cast of the bank today. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Mastaba lies in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, in Quebec. The surface lies 375 metres up. At roughly 2 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Supplies mean a trip to Val-d'Or, 108 km off. Further out sit Senneterre (113 km) and Saint-Boniface (119 km). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Work Lac Mastaba in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Seasonal averages run from -17°C in January up to 17°C in July. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about early May until roughly late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Lac Mastaba runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Lac Reiger at 2 km is the sensible second choice. Check the current arrangement for Lac Mastaba.
