Glare on the water under a clear sky, with stillness over the whole water and pressure going nowhere. Give the margins and the shelf beyond them the first hour at Lac Martin. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Martin is one of the Abitibi-Témiscamingue waters in Quebec. Lake country bush runs right down to the water. It runs to roughly 11 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The edge runs 1.5 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Nearest town is Saint-Isidore, 85 km off. It is 230 km to Greater Sudbury, the nearest city. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Abitibi-Témiscamingue cover northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Lac Martin the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -15°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Average temperatures cross freezing around early May in spring and again near late November in autumn. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. It holds true on Lac Martin more years than not.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. The nearest alternative is Lac Wabak, 1.6 km out. Nothing on Lac Martin should be assumed from this page alone.
