A grey, even sky over the water, with a light SSE breeze with the barometer flat. Start the search at Lac Maroney along the calm side of the wind. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Quebec holds Lac Maroney, in Côte-Nord. Height above sea level is 299 metres. With some 100 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. About 4.9 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Head to Sept-Îles, 66 km away, for anything you forgot. Saguenay is the closest city, 382 km away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Côte-Nord records list logperch among the fish reported. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Anyone new to Lac Maroney should walk it once before setting up.
Average temperature peaks around 14°C in July and bottoms out near -18°C in January. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid May. Averages place the thaw at mid May and the freeze at early November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Expect Lac Maroney to follow that timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Larouche, 2.2 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac Maroney in particular, ask before you travel.
