An even grey lid over the water, with a light SSE breeze and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Lac Manon is reed fringes and open pockets. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Manon sits in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, out in Quebec. The country round it is northern bush from end to end. It is pond-in-a-field scale, with the far bank a short lob away. It is a small entry by Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean standards. The nearest place of any size is Normandin, 66 km away. The big place round here is Saguenay, 180 km distant. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Treat Lac Manon as a water to read rather than to cover.
Seasonal averages run from -19°C in January up to 16°C in July. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Plan around that when you fish Lac Manon.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. The nearest alternative is Lac du Siffleux, 1.3 km out. For Lac Manon, the notice at the access point is the final word.
