Flat light and a covered sky today, with a decent NW wind working the banks and pressure going nowhere. The productive water at Lac Magpie will be around any hard bottom among the soft. The night carries the best of the day. Make the first hour count and build on it. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Côte-Nord in Quebec is where Lac Magpie sits. The water sits 199 metres up. It covers about 105.75 sq km, which means weather matters as much as tactics. The form is ragged, which puts a lot of structure within casting range. On our Côte-Nord list it sits near the top for size. Havre-Saint-Pierre at 113 km is the nearest place to stop. Saguenay sits 541 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Survey and observation records for Côte-Nord include logperch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Lac Magpie the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
The year swings from about -18°C in January to roughly 14°C in July. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around mid May. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid May in spring and again near early November in autumn. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Time your trip to Lac Magpie by conditions rather than dates.
Access is not recorded for this water. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Lac Marsal is 29 km distant. Rules at Lac Magpie are worth checking on the day.
