Thin cloud passing over the water tonight, with barely a breath of wind and steady pressure. Activity on Lac Machau should centre on the seam between weed and open water. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue in Quebec is where Lac Machau sits. It stands 325 metres above sea level. At about 41 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Some 5.5 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. Start from Val-d'Or, 69 km down the road. It is 268 km to Greater Sudbury, the nearest city. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Species logged across Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Work Lac Machau in sections rather than trying to cover it.
The year swings from about -16°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. The lid tends to go about early May and return around late November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Lac Machau runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Indult, 1.3 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Signs at Lac Machau carry more weight than any list.
