A grey, even sky over the water, with a mirror surface most of the day and steady pressure. Most of the action on Lac Lumen should come off the seam between weed and open water. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean end of Quebec holds Lac Lumen. Around the bank it is northern bush. The water covers some 11 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The edge runs 1.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Leblanc sits 62 km from the bank. The big place round here is Saguenay, 213 km distant. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Lac Lumen gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Seasonal averages run from -18°C in January up to 16°C in July. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Plan any trip to Lac Lumen around it.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac Mersant at 1.3 km is the sensible second choice. Signs at Lac Lumen carry more weight than any list.
