Scattered cloud dimming the moonlight, with hardly a ripple anywhere with a settled glass. Activity on Lac Luc should centre on the first drop-off and weed lines. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

You will find Lac Luc in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. The bank is 320 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 7 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Supplies mean a trip to Notre-Dame-du-Lac, 81 km off. Témiscaming follows at 86 km, then Saint-Isidore at 89 km. Others worth noting: Lac Sandeau just 1.7 km, 3 km out stands Lac Landry, Lac Mitasse just 3.6 km, 3.9 km out stands Lac Gody and Lac Saint-Amour just 4.1 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Lac Luc gives up more to patience than to distance.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -15°C. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near late November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. That is the shape of the year on Lac Luc.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, Lac Sandeau is 1.7 km distant. What applies at Lac Luc may have changed since it was mapped.
