Soft grey light all day today, with a persistent wind from the SSW with a settled glass. Give the seam between weed and open water the first hour at Lac Long. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Long stands in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The bank gives way to spruce and muskeg. At about 19 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Bank access stretches around 2.9 km in total. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. The town to know is Normandin, 73 km out. Saguenay sits 183 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Read Lac Long for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Averages here run 15°C at the top of summer and -19°C at the bottom of winter. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. The season between ice runs from about early May to early November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Time your trip to Lac Long by conditions rather than dates.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Lac Clair, 0.8 km away. Rules at Lac Long are worth checking on the day.
