Dull, settled light over the water, with the surface near flat with a settled glass. Whatever swims in Lac Long should be near the first drop-off and weed lines. The numbers single out the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

In Quebec, Lac Long falls inside Mauricie. Elevation runs to 309 metres. At roughly 6 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. 34 km away sits La Tuque, the nearest town. It is 138 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. In the same area: Lac du Cote near enough 0.8 km, Lac Epatant out at 0.9 km, Lac Brassard near enough 1.1 km, Lac Jacques out at 1.3 km and Lac du Fond near enough 1.5 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Lac Long the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Averages here run 17°C at the top of summer and -16°C at the bottom of winter. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Lac Long runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac du Cote, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position at Lac Long before loading the car.
