No direct sun expected today, with an easy breeze from the WSW with the barometer flat. Give the margins and the shelf beyond them the first hour at Lac Long. Quiet conditions all day, with the night marginally better. Save the long walk for a better forecast. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Long is listed under Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. What surrounds it is boreal forest. It runs to roughly 54 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The bank runs about 4.3 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Few waters listed in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean are bigger. For a base, Pont Rouge sits 24 km out. It is 90 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Read Lac Long for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -19°C in January. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Long.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Deuxieme lac de la Mine sits 2.7 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Lac Long in what we hold.
