An even grey lid over the water, with a light chop building from the SE and steady pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Long should be near the seam between weed and open water. A tough forecast; the morning offers the only real chance. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Long falls in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, part of Quebec. Tidal water begins 33 km from here. The water measures roughly 2 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. Most waters listed here for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean are larger. Nearest place of any size is Saint-Ambroise, 16 km away. Labrecque is 16 km away, with Saint-Honoré at 25 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish among the fish reported. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Lac Long responds to conditions more than to tactics.
July runs about 17°C on average, January about -18°C. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. It holds true on Lac Long more years than not.
Our records carry no access rule either way. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac a Rosaire at 0.3 km is the sensible second choice. Rules at Lac Long are worth checking on the day.
