An even grey lid over the water, with a light S breeze with the barometer flat. Fish at Lac Long should hold close to any hard bottom among the soft. The day peaks in the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Long is set in Mauricie, Quebec. The water sits 401 metres up. At about 25 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 4.2 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Weymontachie is the closest place, 17 km off. La Tuque is 73 km away, with Leblanc at 76 km. Near neighbours include: Lac en Coeur sits 1 km out, Lac Yvon lies 1.5 km on, Lac Francois sits 1.8 km out, Petit lac du Nord lies 2.2 km on and Lac de l'Ecluse sits 2.2 km out. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Lac Long the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -16°C in January. Cold dominates the year and the fishing works around it. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. That shapes the year on Lac Long.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac en Coeur at 1 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Lac Long in what we hold.
