Bright, clear skies over the water today, with mild air moving in from the WSW and pressure sitting still. Start the search at Lac Long along reed fringes and open pockets. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Long is a Lanaudière water, in Quebec. The bank is 370 metres above sea level. Surface area is around 25 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The town to know is Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm, 26 km out. After that come Sainte-Béatrix at 26 km and Chertsey at 29 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Species logged across Lanaudière include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, rock bass and brook trout. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. At Lac Long the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Between January at about -14°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Lac Long runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Lac Bruneau is 1.4 km off. Treat access at Lac Long as something to verify.
