Steady rain over the water today, with a gentle ripple from the SSE with a settled glass. Lac Lina should fish best around windblown banks where food collects today. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Lina is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean waters in Quebec. The ground round it is northern bush. This is a pocket water of some 2 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Most waters listed here for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean are larger. Supplies mean a trip to Normandin, 29 km off. Saguenay sits 146 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Read Lac Lina for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Long-run averages give July about 17°C and January about -19°C. This far north the hard season runs and runs. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. On Lac Lina that shapes the whole year.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. We find no slipway, car park or made path within a short radius, so treat access as rough. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. If the gate is shut, Lac Helene at 0.4 km is the nearest alternative. Rules at Lac Lina are worth checking on the day.
