Rain moving through today, with barely a breath of wind with a settled glass. Whatever swims in Lac Leve should be near structure within a cast of the bank. The numbers single out the night. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Leve falls in Nord-du-Québec, part of Quebec. The ground around here is taiga. It measures about 22 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The full circuit measures close to 4.3 km on foot. It is a small entry by Nord-du-Québec standards. For a base, Chibougamau sits 48 km out. Mistissini lies 64 km off, Chapais another 83 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Our records hold no depth for this water. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Across Nord-du-Québec, recorded fish include Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Leve that means starting tight and working out.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -20°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Break-up comes around early May, and the run that follows is short and strong. On average, early May opens the water and early November closes it again. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. The season on Lac Leve follows the weather closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Failing this one, try Lac Ecly, 1.5 km away.
