An even grey lid over the water, with a whisper of wind from the S with the barometer flat. The productive water at Lac Leopold will be around points where shallow meets deep. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Mauricie in Quebec is where Lac Leopold sits. The water sits 351 metres up. The water covers some 52 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Shoreline comes to about 4.5 km, small enough to learn in a day. On our Mauricie list it sits near the top for size. The nearest town is Weymontachie, 22 km away. It is 177 km to Trois-Rivières, the nearest city. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch among the fish reported. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Lac Leopold gives up more to patience than to distance.
Average temperature peaks around 17°C in July and bottoms out near -16°C in January. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. At Lac Leopold the season follows that pattern closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Michel sits 0.8 km off and takes the overflow. Ask locally about Lac Leopold if anything is unclear.
