Soft grey light all day today, with a steady NW wind with the barometer flat. Fish at Lac Leofred should hold close to any hard bottom among the soft. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. The cold puts a premium on the calmest, deepest water.

Set in Côte-Nord, Quebec, this is Lac Leofred. Country round the bank runs to spruce and muskeg. At some 2.44 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. Around 11 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. Size puts it in the front rank of our Côte-Nord list. For supplies, Nain is 209 km out. Then Kuujjuaq, 256 km, and Labrador City, 428 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Côte-Nord include logperch. Take it as the county picture rather than a promise for this water. Lac Leofred fishes better once you know its edges.
Climate normals give 11°C for July and -24°C for January. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Once it clears, about early June, the fishing comes on quickly. Ice usually gives way near early June, and forms again about mid October. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Lac Leofred fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Cholmondely, 28 km away, makes the obvious fallback. What applies at Lac Leofred may have changed since it was mapped.
