A grey, even sky over the water, with a gentle ripple from the SSW and the barometer holding steady. Fish at Lac Leclair should hold close to windblown banks where food collects. A long productive spell runs morning through afternoon. Make the first hour count and build on it. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Leclair lies in Laurentides, Quebec. The bank is 266 metres above sea level. The water measures roughly 5 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. Head to Rivière-Rouge, 20 km away, for anything you forgot. Labelle is 36 km away, with La Minerve at 40 km. Round about: Lac Delisle at 0.6 km, Lac aux Poissons 1.9 km off, Lac du Petit Brochet at 2 km, Lac Vison 2.4 km off and Lac du Gros Brochet at 2.7 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Laurentides records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch among the fish reported. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. Anyone new to Lac Leclair should walk it once before setting up.
Between January at about -15°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. That shapes the year on Lac Leclair.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. A campsite is mapped about 610 m away, which makes an early start easier. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Should this one be busy, Lac Delisle is 0.6 km off. Treat Lac Leclair as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
