Cloud from horizon to horizon today, with a faint S drift with a settled glass. The productive water at Lac Lareau will be around the seam between weed and open water. Make the night the heart of the trip. Make the first hour count and build on it. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Lareau is a Mauricie water, in Quebec. The surface lies 492 metres up. At some 3.87 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. It is among the larger waters listed here for Mauricie. Nearest place of any size is Weymontachie, 31 km away. Leblanc lies 59 km off, La Tuque another 99 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Across Mauricie, recorded fish include northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Lac Lareau gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
The range across the year is -17°C to 16°C. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Expect Lac Lareau to follow that timing.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. If the gate is shut, Lac Kinakumaw at 1.2 km is the nearest alternative. Ask locally about Lac Lareau if anything is unclear.
