Patchy cloud over the water after dark, with a faint S drift with the glass holding level. Fish at Lac Lafontaine should hold close to structure within a cast of the bank. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Lafontaine sits in Outaouais, out in Quebec. Elevation runs to 207 metres. This is a pocket water of some 2 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Outaouais. For supplies, Ripon is 11 km out. Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel is 16 km away, with Saint-André-Avellin at 18 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Outaouais, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Treat Lac Lafontaine as a water to read rather than to cover.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 19°C, while January sits near -13°C. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at early December. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Plan around that when you fish Lac Lafontaine.
Access is not recorded for this water. You will be walking about 680 m from the nearest car park. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. If the gate is shut, Lac Georges at 1.2 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position on Lac Lafontaine before loading the car.
