An even grey lid over the water, with a firm SSW blow with a settled glass. Lac Lafontaine should fish best around sheltered bays and points today. One clear peak today: the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Lafontaine is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, in Quebec. Elevation runs to 436 metres. At roughly 2 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list holds plenty of bigger water. Saint-Félicien is the closest town at 39 km. Saint-Prime is 42 km away, with Roberval at 46 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Work Lac Lafontaine in sections rather than trying to cover it.
On the long-term average, July reads 16°C and January reads -18°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Plan any trip to Lac Lafontaine around it.
Public data does not answer the access question here. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac Potvin at 0.9 km is the sensible second choice. Ask locally about Lac Lafontaine if anything is unclear.
