Solid cloud cover today, with a light chop building from the WSW and pressure sitting still. Most of the action on Lac La Trappe should come off inflow corners and shaded margins. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean end of Quebec holds Lac La Trappe. The country round it is northern bush from end to end. At about 40 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. At about 6.0 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. It is among the larger waters listed here for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. Supplies mean a trip to Dolbeau-Mistassini, 31 km off. Pont Rouge is 33 km and Albanel 34 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. County-wide records name northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac La Trappe gives up more to patience than to distance.
The seasonal spread runs -19°C to 17°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Expect Lac La Trappe to follow that timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. If the gate is shut, Lac du Lancier at 1.3 km is the nearest alternative. For Lac La Trappe, the notice at the access point is the final word.
