Flat light and a covered sky today, with a light chop building from the S and no real change in pressure. Expect most activity at Lac La Chaine around the weed line and any gaps in it. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac La Chaine is a Laurentides water, Quebec side. It stands 255 metres above sea level. For a base, Ferme-Neuve sits 17 km out. Mont-Laurier lies 25 km off, Rivière-Rouge another 41 km. Other water nearby: Lac a Truite about 1.2 km, Lac Marquis at about 1.9 km, Lac Creux about 2.7 km, Lac Mantha at about 2.7 km and Lac Nadon about 2.8 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Our records hold no depth for this water. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Laurentides include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. The shape of Lac La Chaine rewards a slow walk along one bank.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -15°C. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about late November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac La Chaine.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. You can launch from a ramp around 860 m away. Recorded parking is 840 m off, far enough to travel light. A pier 860 m from here gives a platform over deeper water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Failing this one, try Lac a Truite, 1.2 km away. None of that is settled for Lac La Chaine in what we hold.
