Soft grey light all day today, with almost no wind to speak of and steady pressure. Give inflow corners and shaded margins the first hour at Lac Kiask. Little to get excited about, though the morning holds a sliver of promise. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Kiask is one of the Nord-du-Québec waters in Quebec. The surroundings are taiga. The water covers around 1.09 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. With 11 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Start from Lebel-sur-Quévillon, 25 km down the road. The big place round here is Gatineau, 397 km distant. No border sits close enough to matter.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. County-wide records name Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Work Lac Kiask in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -19°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Lac Kiask runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Failing this one, try Lac Mosseau, 3.2 km away. Confirm access to Lac Kiask locally before you travel.
