Fresh rain topping the water up today, with just enough NE wind to ripple the surface with a settled glass. Expect most activity at Lac Kauputauchechun around bays that hold the day's warmth. Quiet conditions all day, with the night marginally better. Save the long walk for a better forecast.

Lac Kauputauchechun lies within the bounds of Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. Elevation runs to 176 metres. It measures some 5.24 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. With 24 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. By size it stands out even at Quebec level. For supplies, Waskaganish is 167 km out. Chisasibi is 206 km and Moose Factory 289 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Species logged across Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Lac Kauputauchechun repays a walk before the first cast.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -21°C in January. This far north the hard season runs and runs. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around mid May. Ice usually gives way near mid May, and forms again about mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Kauputauchechun.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac Takuchtawch Katakuch, 8.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Lac Kauputauchechun.
