Soft grey light all day today, with stillness over the whole water with a settled glass. Most of the action on Lac Jonquet should come off the margins and the shelf beyond them. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the morning. Fish the best hour hard and keep the rest short.

Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, is where Lac Jonquet sits. The setting is mixed forest. The water covers some 24 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. With about 2.5 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Malartic lies 26 km from the water. Val-d'Or follows at 48 km, then Rouyn-Noranda at 50 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac Jonquet the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -17°C on the long-run figures. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Ice usually gives way near early May, and forms again about mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Lac Jonquet runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Lac Chambray is 2.7 km distant. Confirm access to Lac Jonquet locally before you travel.
