Steady rain over the water today, with light air out of the S with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Lac Israel should come off the first drop-off and weed lines. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Out in Outaouais, Quebec, sits Lac Israel. Land around it is lake country bush. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. Maniwaki at 8.6 km is the nearest place to stop. It is 108 km to Gatineau, the nearest city. Other water nearby: Petit lac Taylor lies 0.9 km on, Lac Valiquette 1.4 km, Lac Ecarte lies 2.1 km on, Lac a Riel 3.1 km and Lac Lannigan lies 3.6 km on. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Across Outaouais, recorded fish include pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Israel the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Temperature averages peak at 18°C in July and bottom out at -14°C in January. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at late November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Israel.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Petit lac Taylor sits 0.9 km off and takes the overflow. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Israel for certain.
