A grey, even sky over the water, with flat calm through the day and pressure sitting still. The productive water at Lac Irene will be around shallow cover and weed edges. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Irene is listed under Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. It lies 361 metres above sea level. At some 7.86 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. With about 42 km of shoreline, local advice saves a lot of walking. Size puts it in the front rank of our Nord-du-Québec list. The closest town, Chapais, is 28 km distant. It is 297 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Across Nord-du-Québec, recorded fish include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. On Lac Irene that means starting tight and working out.
Long-run averages give July about 16°C and January about -19°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. The season on Lac Irene rarely departs from it.
Public data does not answer the access question here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. For a change of water, Lac Dawning is 5.1 km distant. What applies at Lac Irene may have changed since it was mapped.
