A closed sky with even light today, with an easy breeze from the SSW with a settled glass. Start the search at Lac Hurley along reed fringes and open pockets. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Lac Hurley is one of the Outaouais waters in Quebec. The water sits 306 metres up. This is a pocket water of some 4 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Most waters listed here for Outaouais are larger. Saint-Raphaël lies 42 km from the water. Maniwaki follows at 47 km, then Fort-Coulonge at 49 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
We hold no depth figure for this one. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Records held for Outaouais cover pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The shape of Lac Hurley decides where the fish sit.
Between January at about -14°C and July at about 18°C, the water has a wide range to work through. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. From about late April to around late November, expect open water on the long-run figures. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Lac Hurley runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Munroe, 0.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Lac Hurley in what we hold.
