Dull, settled light over the water, with a light chop building from the SSW and pressure sitting still. On Lac Hoover, work the shallows early and the drop later first. Quiet conditions all day, with the morning marginally better. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Mauricie in Quebec is where Lac Hoover sits. The bank is 375 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 14 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. A shoreline of some 2.6 km keeps the choices simple. Some 51 km away sits Weymontachie, the nearest settlement. La Tuque is 55 km and Manawan 71 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records held for Mauricie cover northern pike, brook trout and walleye. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Lac Hoover gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Climate records put July near 17°C and January near -16°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. At Lac Hoover the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Should this one be busy, Lac Jonquille is 1.8 km off. Treat Lac Hoover as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
