Overcast skies today, with a whisper of wind from the SSW with the barometer flat. The water to cover at Lac Hinkhouse is the shaded margin through bright spells. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

You will find Lac Hinkhouse in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The bank is 643 metres above sea level. About 6 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Compared with other Quebec water on our list, it sits high. You are 58 km from Saint-Honoré. After that come Saint-Fulgence at 64 km and Saint-Ambroise at 66 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean records list northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish among the fish reported. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. At Lac Hinkhouse light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Temperature averages peak at 15°C in July and bottom out at -19°C in January. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around mid May. The lid tends to go about mid May and return around early November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Lac Hinkhouse fishes to that pattern most years.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Cairns, 0.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm access to Lac Hinkhouse locally before you travel.
