No direct sun expected today, with enough SSW wind to stack food downwind and pressure sitting still. The water to cover at Lac Heme is the seam between weed and open water. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, is where Lac Heme sits. It sits at 422 metres above sea level. At about 12 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Around 1.9 km of margin, front to back. Head to Leblanc, 83 km away, for anything you forgot. Normandin lies 100 km off, Albanel another 105 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Lac Heme light and wind decide more than tackle does.
The year swings from about -18°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. It holds true on Lac Heme more years than not.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Should this one be busy, Lac Bellabre is 1 km off. For Lac Heme in particular, ask before you travel.
