Flat light and a covered sky today, with calm air over the water with a settled glass. The fish at Lac Hector are likely to sit near any hard bottom among the soft. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Night
Out in Côte-Nord, Quebec, sits Lac Hector. The ground round it is northern bush. At about 18 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. With about 2.0 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. The closest town, Baie-Comeau, is 53 km away. Hauterive follows at 60 km, then Chute-aux-Outardes at 74 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Côte-Nord: logperch. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac Hector gives up more to patience than to distance.
Averages move between -15°C in January and 16°C in July. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Lac Hector fishes to that pattern most years.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lac Osmond, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Lac Hector in what we hold.
