You will find Lac Hawkins in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. This is lake country bush ground. Around 45 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. At about 5.5 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. Saint-Boniface lies 110 km from the water. Further out sit Ferme-Neuve (111 km) and Mont-Laurier (122 km). It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for Abitibi-Témiscamingue cover northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Anyone new to Lac Hawkins should walk it once before setting up.
The year swings from about -17°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Climate figures give an open season running early May to late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Lac Hawkins fishes to that pattern most years.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. For a change of water, Lac Gesse is 1.2 km distant. Nothing on Lac Hawkins should be assumed from this page alone.
