Clear conditions and high sun today, with a whisper of wind from the NW with the glass holding level. Whatever swims in Lac Hatley should be near the weed line and any gaps in it. One clear peak today: the evening. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Hatley is an Estrie water, Quebec side. It sits in pine and birch country. At roughly 9 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Some 7 km away sits Ayer's Cliff, the nearest settlement. The nearest city of size is Sherbrooke, 27 km away. Not far off: 5.2 km out stands Lac Wheeler, Lac Massawippi (7 km), 7.5 km out stands Lac Cotnoir, Lac a Robert (14 km) and 14 km out stands Etang Peasley. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Species logged across Estrie include rainbow trout, white sucker, pumpkinseed and brook trout. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Read Lac Hatley for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Climate normals give 19°C for July and -11°C for January. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from mid April. Ice clears near mid April and comes back about early December in a typical year. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. That is the shape of the year on Lac Hatley.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Should this one be busy, Lac Wheeler is 5.2 km off. Confirm access to Lac Hatley locally before you travel.
