A closed sky with even light today, with hardly a ripple anywhere and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Lac Gustave should come off windblown banks where food collects. A stay-home graph, with the evening as the one excuse to go. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Gustave belongs to Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. Height above sea level is 360 metres. At about 53 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. With about 4.0 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. It ranks high for size among our Abitibi-Témiscamingue listings. Nearest place of any size is Senneterre, 71 km away. Val-d'Or is 72 km and Barraute 88 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. At Lac Gustave light and wind decide more than tackle does.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Expect Lac Gustave to follow that timing.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Réserve faunique La Vérendrye runs up to the bank here, which usually means extra restrictions. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. The nearest alternative is Lac Rollard, 3.1 km out. The position on Lac Gustave is worth confirming on the day.
