Dull, settled light over the water, with a light chop building from the W and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Lac Gislain should come off bays that hold the day's warmth. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient.

Mauricie in Quebec is where Lac Gislain sits. Northern bush runs right down to the water. The water measures roughly 10 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. About 1.9 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Head to Weymontachie, 20 km away, for anything you forgot. Trois-Rivières is the closest city, 180 km away. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout and walleye. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. At Lac Gislain light and wind decide more than tackle does.
On the long-term average, July reads 16°C and January reads -16°C. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Plan around that when you fish Lac Gislain.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Lac Morin is 0.6 km off. Ask locally about Lac Gislain if anything is unclear.
