Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a decent SSW wind working the banks with a settled glass. Activity on Lac Giray should centre on the shaded margin through bright spells. Make the night the heart of the trip. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Look for Lac Giray in the Mauricie part of Quebec. The bank is 466 metres above sea level. Roughly 16 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The bank runs about 2.0 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. The closest town, Chapais, is 84 km away. Leblanc is 97 km away, with Chibougamau at 108 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Giray that means starting tight and working out.
Typical July readings run about 16°C; by January the average is down near -19°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan around that when you fish Lac Giray.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Dazes sits 2.8 km off and takes the overflow. Check the current arrangement for Lac Giray.
