A clean, cloudless night over the water, with a light SSW breeze with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Lac Gillies should be near any hard bottom among the soft. The day peaks in the evening. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Look for Lac Gillies in the Outaouais part of Quebec. Elevation runs to 214 metres. At 2.86 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. On our Outaouais list it sits near the top for size. For a base, Fort-Coulonge sits 24 km out. Pembroke is 36 km and Petawawa 41 km. Near neighbours: Lac Baker lies 2.2 km on, Lac Jim within 4.2 km, Lac Vert lies 6.3 km on, Lac Moiseau within 7.5 km and Lac Bryson lies 7.8 km on. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Fish Lac Gillies where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -14°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Lac Gillies runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Failing this one, try Lac Baker, 2.2 km away. Treat access at Lac Gillies as something to verify.
