No direct sun expected today, with a working WSW breeze and steady pressure. Fish at Lac Gill should hold close to the seam between weed and open water. Save your energy for the middle of the day. Stay patient; middling days often turn late. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Quebec holds Lac Gill, in Nord-du-Québec. It lies 283 metres above sea level. Roughly 86 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The margin runs to about 5.8 km in total. Some 218 km away sits Mistissini, the nearest settlement. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 516 km away. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Fish documented in Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. Lac Gill repays a walk before the first cast.
July runs about 16°C on average, January about -21°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Once it clears, about mid May, the fishing comes on quickly. Open water usually runs from mid May until about early November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Lac Gill runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac de la Grande Allee at 11 km is the sensible second choice. Treat access at Lac Gill as something to verify.
